The Seascape was built by our family, my dad, Robert (Bob) C. Rolston who worked for Dale & Co (marine insurance) in Vancouver BC. She was launched July 25 1956 at Menchions Shipyard in Coal Harbour. She was sold after my Dad died in 1978 to Fred Homer of Anderson Cove in Sooke BC. Fred was a commercial fisher, retired and he went all over the place with her (Queen Charlottes etc.) cruising and fishing. The next and current owners are Sunny Mathieson and Simon Foster also of Victoria BC. They took her down several years ago on her own hull as far as Panama for a couple of years, then had her taken back to Nanaimo on one of the ‘lift ships’. Several years later they repeated the same venture, getting as far (I think?) as the Caribbean!

I only met Bill Garden once and he shook his head and said the boat needs to return to it’s original lines. That is because the hull was pained white (not a bad idea at all, I would have preferred a very light gray though), the teak decks were all painted gray, the heavy oak ‘toe rails’ and the gum wood rubbing guard along the hull as well as the teak trim around the house were all painted red! Ugh! House teak was then pained white which made it look quite boxy. The sailing standing rigging (which could fold down on a tabernacle) was all removed and a tripod ‘flopper stopper’ stabilizing rig was installed, and of course painted white (rather than gray) so it looks a bit like an oil rig tender. Also, the added a wheel house to her which did not have the same lines as the main house again, ruining the lines of the ship. The Gardner is still running well.
