He was living in Montreal QC at the time of his recruitment into the navy. He was the brother of S.J. Abela.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1959. He served in HMCS Carleton for UNTD 1959. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/07/1964). He served in HMCS Carleton 1964. (He was released.)
