He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RN (With seniority dated 15/09/1897). He was appointed as a Midshipman RN (With seniority dated 15/10/1897). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 26/06/1901). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 26/06/1903). (Lent from the RN to the RCN). He served in HMCS Niobe 1910. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (Retired) (Temp.) RCN. He served in HMCS Niobe (For Wireless Telegraph duties) 1912. He served in HMCS Niobe (In command) 1913. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (With seniority dated 26/06/1911). He served in HMCS Niobe. He was appointed as A/Commander RCN (With seniority dated 22/10/1914). He served in HMCS Niobe. (He retired on 11/11/1918.) He was appointed as a Captain RN (Promoted on the Retired List) (He was qualified as a Torpedo Officer.)
