He was appointed as the Governor of Newfoundland 09/1932 - 09/1935. Anderson served as the last governor of the Dominion of Newfoundland, and as the first chairman of Newfoundland's Commission of Government. Anderson only acted as Dominion Governor for a short time before Newfoundland, on the brink of bankruptcy, was forced to relinquish its dominion status. A Commission of Government was immediately formed with Anderson as Chairman. He was appointed as the Governor of New South Wales in 1935. He was ill almost throughout his term and died in Sydney. |

He was appointed as a Commander RN 1905. He served in HMY Victoria and Albert (In command) 1908. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 11/08/1911). He served in HMS Hyacinth (In command as Flag Captain on the Cape Station) 1913-17. He was involved in the destruction of SMS Konigsberg and the surrender of Dar-es-Salaam. He served in HMS Ajax (In command) 1918-19. He served as AdC to HM King George V 1921-22. He served as Superintendent of HM Dockyard Milford Haven. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 05/1922). He served as Senior Naval Officer Yangtze River on the China Station and Temporary Commander-in-Chief 1922-25. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN 1927. He served as Flag Officer Africa Station 1927-29. He served as High Commissioner to the Union of South Africa 1928. He served in Geneva as British Naval Representative at the League of Nations 1929-31. He was appointed as a Admiral RN in 1931. (He retired from the Royal Navy 01/07/1932).
