Biography
He was an engineering student at UBC before his enlistment. He graduated with a BASc degree from UBC in 1922.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 14/03/1917) in Ottawa ON. He was stationed in England in 1917. He was appointed as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS. He served in RNAS Vendome 18/06/1917. He served in RNAS Calshott 18/09/1917. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (Temporary Captain) RAF 07/1918. He served in Great Yarmouth Air Station 18/12/1917. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1918 when "in an engagement between three of our machines and seven of the enemy this officer displayed remarkable courage and determination. He was wounded early in the fight and suffering great pain, he continued the action and drove down one hostile aircraft causing it to make a very bad landing." (He was injured in an air accident on 04/07/1918 and discharged in 02/1919.) He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross "In an engagement between three of our machines and seven of the enemy this officer displayed remarkable courage and determination. Wounded early in the fight and suffering great pain, he continued the action and drove down one hostile aircraft, causing it to make a very bad landing."
