He was appointed as a Midshipman RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1936). He served in H.M.S. Exeter for Sea Training 1936. He served in H.M.S. Victory for Training. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1938). He served with the Royal Navy for training 1938. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/10/1938). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 15/06/1940). He served in HMCS Annapolis as First Lieutenant 1941. He served in HMCS Haida as Executive Officer 1943. He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant-Commander RCN 1946.
