He was a plumber's helper at the time of his recruitment into the navy. (His attestation notes he did 6 months in vessels of the British Columbia Coast Steamship Co, the CPR and and the Terminal Navigation Company.) In 1921 after his naval service he worked as an Able Seaman in the merchant navy. In 1932-1936 he served as a ship's officer in the merchant navy. In 1936 he was retired. |

He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNCVR (With seniority dated 05/08/1914). In 1914 he served in HMCS Rainbow. In 1914 he served in HMCS Shearwater. He was appointed as an Able Seaman RNCVR 1914. He served in HMCS Malaspina 1916. In 1917 he served in HMCS Shearwater. In 1917 he served in HMCS Niobe. In 1917 he served in HMCS Stadacona for HMCS PV-V. In 1918 he served in hMCS Niobe. He was appointed as a Stoker (First Class) RNCVR 1918. (He was invalided out of the navy on August 1, 1918 with medical pension). |
