Biography
He joined the merchant service as an Apprentice. In 1960 he joined the Department of Transport as Marine Historian.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RNVR. (He had Second World War service and commanded a minesweeper). (He was demobilized.) (Transferred to the RCN(R).) He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RCN(R) (With seniority dated 30/09/1953). (He was released.)

Anecdotes
He was the author of Usque Ad Mare: A history of the Canadian Coast Guard and Marine Services. In 1965-1967 he was the Commodore of the \Britannia Yacht Club in Ottawa ON.
