He was authorized to fly the Canadian Blue Ensign while in command of CNSS vessel Lady Somers in 1937.

He was appointed as a Captain (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 01/03/1939). He served in HMCS Prince David (In command) 1941. He was appointed as a Captain (Promoted from the Commanders List)
