Military Service
He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 1915). He enlisted in Canada, and underwent training on Toronto Island and Long Branch ON. He served in #3 Wing RNAS 1915. He was appointed as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 03/04/1916). He served in RNAS Dunkirk for 3 (Naval) Squadron RNAS 1917. He undertook offensive patrols escorting photographic planes, spotters and bombers and air fighting on the coast. He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 30/06/1917). He was appointed as an A/Flight Commander (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 01/01/1917). He served with C-Flight (In command) 1917. He was awarded the DFC and Croix de Guerre in 1917 "in recogition of his services with a wing of the RNAS at Dunkirk between February and September 1917. He has destroyed several hostilemachines and has led his flight with very great skill and gallantry." He was appointed as a Captain RAF (With seniority dated 01/04/1918). He was serving with 3(N) Squadron RNAS.
