In 1911-1912 he was the first W/T Operator at Triangle Island BC. He served at Gonzales Hill Station and Cape Lazo. His home was in Vancouver at the time of his recruitment. He was a Wireless Telegraphist for Department of Naval Services in Ikeda, Queen Charlotte Islands before the war. On hearing of outbreak of war he sailed a 16-foot boat alone across Queen Charlotte Strait and Hecate Sound to the mainland to join the navy. |

He was awarded the DSO for his role in sinking the German naval cruiser Konigsberg at the Rufiji River in German East Africa in July 1915. He was killed accidentally at RNAS Eastchurch 20/03/1918. |
