He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 1915). He made a passage from New York on the Philadelphia on 20/12/1915. He was appointed as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS. He was training at RNAS Eastbourne on 10/01/1916. He was on training at the Cranwell Training Establishment on 20/05/1916. He was based at RNAS Felixstowe in 1916. He was stationed at RNAS South Shields Seaplane Station in 06/10/1916. He was stationed at the Plymouth Seaplane Station on 19/02/1917. He was stationed at he RNAS Cattewater Seaplane Station on 02/04/1917.
