After his naval service he was the President and Chairman of Southam Press Limited, President of the Canadian Press, and Vice-chairman of the Commonwealth Press Union.

RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1944). He served in HMCS Lethbridge (In command) 1944. He served in HMCS Meon (Ninth Escort Group) (In command) 1944. He was appointed as an A/Commander (Temp.) RCNVR 1944. He served in HMCS Dunver (In command) and as Senior Officer 27th Escort Group 1944. He was appointed as a Commander (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/07/1945). He served in HMCS Cornwallis as Executive Officer 1945.
