He was raised in Toronto ON Canada.

He was appointed as a AC/2 RAF in 1937. (Transferred to the RN Fleet Air Arm 08/1938). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (A) RN. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (A) RN. He survived the sinking of H.M.S. Courageous 09/1939. He served in 811 (RN) Squadron. He served in 882 (RN) Squadron. He served in 814 (RN) Squadron.
