Biography
He received an Athlone Fellowship. After his naval service he worked as a professional engineer with Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. And Ontario Hydro. He he was instrumental in the development of nuclear energy as a power source. He retired from in 1989. He was the twin brother of Derek Bate.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCN(R) 1944-1948. He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1944. He served in HMCS New Liskeard for Sea Training 1945. He served in HMCS Warrior for Sea Training 1945. He served in HMCS Wallaceburg for Sea Training 1945. (CFR). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (L) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/02/1948). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (L) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/02/1950). He served in HMCS Ontario 1951. (He was attached to the RNR 1954-1958). He served in H.M.S. Calliope (Newcastle-on-Tyne) 1954-55. He served in H.M.S. Eaglet (Liverpool) 1955-1958. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (L) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/02/1958). He served in HMCS York as Technical Officer. (He retired 1963.)
