(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He was the Master of the sailing ship Comadre in the White Star Line. He was appointed as a Marine Pilot in 1889. In 1893 he was appointed as a a Pilot in the Victoria & Esquimalt Pilotage Authority and in the Vancouver Pilotage District. |

He was released as a Marine Pilot as a result of complaints made by the Victoria Agent of the Trans-Pacific LIne in 1908. It was reported in the Victoria News Advertiser that he was dismissed for physical incapability. |
