Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1956-1957. He served in HMCS Donnacona 1956-1957. He served in HMCS Lauzon for Sea Training 1957. (He was released 1957.)

Anecdotes
"The highlight of the summer of 1957 was serving aboard the HMCS Lauzon with visits to Portsmouth UK and Amsterdam. Unfortunately, I had to resign as the geology program at McGill required two summers of field work in order to graduate. Never completed the necessary field work (did only the summer of 1958 in northern Quebec) and ended up doing a MSc and PhD in plant biochemistry."
