He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 01/11/1927). He served in H.M.S. Watchman. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 01/02/1929). He served in H.M.S. Exeter. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RN (With seniority dated 01/02/1937). He served in H.M.S. Warspite. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 30/06/1940). He served in H.M.S. Warspite on Staff of Flag Captain. He was appointed as an A/Captain RN. He served in H.M.S. Lanka (Colombo Ceylon). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 31/12/1948). He served in H.M.S. Cardigan Bay (In command) 1949. He was appointed as a Commodore 2nd Class RN 1953.
