He was the son of Captain John H. Browne and uncle of Captain John A. Smith. He joined the Union Steamship Line as Deckhand in 1921. (In 1925 he was qualified as a Mate (Coastal)). In 1927 he was the Third Mate in the Chilliwack III on her voyage from Scotland to British Columbia. (In 1929 he was qualified as a Master Mariner (Passenger Coastal) #12381.) In 1931 he served in the Lady Cecelia. In 1933 he was the Master of the Comox. (He served in the Union Steamship Line 1921-45. (In 1945 he was qualified as a Marine Pilot). In 1954 he served in Gulf Island Ferries at Ganges as Master of the Motor Princess. |
