He was appointed as a Mate RNCVR (With seniority dated 03/12/1917). In 1917 he served in HMC TR-32. In 1919 he served in HMC TR-26. (Transferred to RCNR). He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant RCNR (With seniority dated 26/03/1924). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCNR (With seniority dated 26/03/1924). In 1925 he served in RCNR Divisional HQ Halifax. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RCNR (With seniority dated 26/03/1932). (He was placed on the retired list.) He was appointed as a Commander RCNR (Retired) (With seniority dated 19/07/1938). (Mobilized for World War Two service 17/02/1940). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 26/03/1932). In 1940 he served in RCN Barracks Saint John. In 1940 he served in HMCS Cartier (In command). He was appointed as an A/Commander (Temp.) RCNR 1944. He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire "This Officer proved invaluable to the Royal Canadian Navy in his capacity of Commodore of Coastal Convoys sailing between Canada, Newfoundland and the United States during the Battle of the Atlantic. He was the first Canadian Naval Officer to hold such an appointment, and he performed his duties with unusual willingness, consideration and co-operation with ship Masters and Shore Authorities and proved an invaluable asset to the Naval Service." |
