He was an office clerk at the time of his recruitment into the navy.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNCVR. He was appointed as an Able-Seaman RNCVR. He served in HMS Vivid (Devonport UK). (He died of scarlet fever at at the Borough Hospital Plymouth while on duty in the UK).
