Biography
A pre-eminent political economist and writer, Stephen Clarkson has contributed to the scholarly understanding of Canada’s place in the world. His focus has been on North America’s economic and political integration under trade liberalization and the war on terror. His extensive publications also include an award-winning biography of Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Professor at the University of Toronto, he also lectures and teaches in Latin America, Asia and Europe. He was a Rhodes Scholar. He attended Oxford University to obtain a master’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics. Then he moved to Paris to earn his doctorate at the Sorbonne. In addition to teaching at the University of Toronto and being a prominent senior fellow of Massey College, Prof. Clarkson held positions at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Ont., the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, the European University Institute in Florence and the Free University of Berlin.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1955. He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1955-1958. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/05/1958). In 1958 he served in HMCS York. (He was released.)
