He was appointed as Commander-in-Chief of HM Ships and Vessels in the River St. Lawrence along the coast of Nova Scotia, the Islands of Anticosti, Madelaine, St. John and Cape Breton, the Bay of Fundy and at and about Bermuda or Somers' Islands, the Bahama Islands, and the Gulf of Mexico to the Tropic of Cancer (he carried his flag in H.M.S.
