He was appointed as a Bandsman (Royal Canadian Corps of Signals). (He transferred to the RCN) (Short Service Appointment). He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1963). He served in HMCS Venture (Officer Training Establishment) 1963. He served in RCAF Centralia for Flying Training 1963. RCAF Portage for Advanced Flying Training 1964. He was Awarded Wings 01/11/1964. He was appointed as a A/Sub-Lieutenant (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1964). He served in HMCS Shearwater for HU-21 Squadron 1964.
