Biography
He served with H.M.S. Druid in the Ashanti War (medal). He was employed on west coast of the Cape Colony during second phase of the Boer War and landed at Lambert's Bay (medal). He was the Senior Naval Officer East Coast Africa for the Ogaden-Somali War and he landed at Kismayu (medal & clasp)
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RN in 1868. He served in H.M.S. Britannia for Training 1868. He was appointed as a Midshipman RN in 1873 serving in H.M.S. Druid. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN in 1877 serving in HM Royal Yacht. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 30/06/1892). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 01/01/1899) He served as Division Transportation Officer in the Thames District for the embarkation of the South African Field Force 1899-1900. He served in H.M.S. Terpsichore (In command) 1901 and in H.M.S. Cornwallis (Channel Fleet) (In command) 1905. He was appointed as AdC to HM King Edward VII in 1907. He served as Commanding Officer of the Sheerness Gunnery School 1907-08. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 18/06/1908). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 17/05/1913). He served as the Vice-Admiral Commanding the Coast of Ireland in 1911-1915. He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 10/04/1917). He transferred to RNR in 1917 and reverted to the rank of Captain RNR. He was appointed as a Temporary Commodore 2nd Class RN in 1917. He was lent from the RNR to the RCN and served as Commodore of Patrols at Halifax NS in 1917. (He retired in 1917.)
