He was the namesake of a paternal ancestor who had run a Patent Medicine business in Brockville ON. He then entered the University of Western Ontario, graduating there with a business degree in 1962. After graduation from RMC he remained in London, where at his death he was the long standing owner of Competition Motors, a Toyota dealership in town. |

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1956. In 1956 he served in HMCS Naden for service in Royal Roads. He erved in the Royal Military College of Canada. (He was released.) |

Bill Clearihue reports that "He was in the Cadet Corps at St Andrews College in Aurora ON, and from there entered HMCS ROYAL ROADS in the fall of 1956. He was entered onto the books of the UNTD program at that time, but was uniquely assigned to NADEN rather than to MALAHAT as other cadets had been. He completed his 2 years at RRMC and then completed 2 more years at RMC." |
