He was living in Placentia Bay NL at the time of his recruitment.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1952. In 1952 he served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). (Constinuous Naval Duty) He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (CND) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 26/06/1956). (Short Service Appointment 01/10/1958). He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 01/10/1958). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 01/10/1958). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (SSA) RCN (With seniority dated 01/10/1960). He served in HMCS Carleton. (He was released.) (He was qualified with a Watchkeeping Certificate.)
