He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNCVR. In 1917 he served in HMCS Rainbow. He served in HMS Pembroke for Chatham Barracks 1917. (He was killed (died of wounds) during a night attack by German Gotha bombers on Chatham Barracks 03/09/1917.)
