He was appointed as a Fourth Class Wireless Telegraph Operator RNCVR (With seniority dated 21/06/1917). In 1917-1918 he served in HMCS Laurentian (Auxiliary Patrol Ship) as Wireless Telegraph Operator. (He was demobilized.)
