Biography
His home was in Toronto ON. He worked for the Royal Bank of Canada. He trained at Curtiss School in Toronto, 1916; After World War One he operated a general insurance agency in Toronto under his own name until mobilized for World War Two service. He helped to found the Toronto Flying Club. After his military service he was Vice-Chairman of A.V. Roe (Canada) Ltd. And of Hawker Siddeley (Canada) Ltd. He was the first Chancellor of York University. Died 7 August 1977;

He was appointed as a Private in the 34th Brigade Canadian Army in 1915. He was appointed as a Sergeant, Canadian Army. (CFR). He was appointed as a Second Lieutenant (Canadian Army). He served in the 21st Regiment. (Transferred to RNAS on 11/08/1916). He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 11/08/1916) in Ottawa ON.He served in Crystal Palace 17/09/1916.He served in Long Branch Ontario for Pilot Training 1916. He served in RAF Cranwell 14/10/1916. He served in #6 (Naval) Squadron 1916. He served in #12 (Naval) Squadron, 06-25/06/1917. He served in #6 (Naval) Squadron 25 June to 28 August 1917. He served in #10 (Naval) Squadron 28/08/1917 - 26/02/1918. He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 29/10/1917). He was appointed as a Flight Commander RNAS (With seniority dated 02/01/1918). (Transferred to RAF 1918). He was appointed as a Captain RAF 1918. (He was invalided Home), (Transferred to RCAF Auxiliary). He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant RCAF 1930. He was appointed as a Squadron Leader RCAF (Auxiliary) 1935. He served as Commanding Officer #110 "City of Toronto" Squadron 1935-38. He served as Commanding Officer No. 101 Wing (Auxiliary) Toronto 1938-39, (Mobilized for World War Two service) 1939. He was appointed as a Wing Commander RCAF 1939. He served as Director Postings and Records RCAF HQ 1940. He was appointed as a Group Captain RCAF 1940. He served as Director Postings and Careers 1940-41. He served as Commanding Officer #2 Service Flying Training School at Uplands Air Training Station 1941. He served as Deputy Commander-in-Chief RCAF Overseas 1941-44. He served as Air Member Air Staff RCAF Air Council 1943. He served as Canadian Member US-Canada Permanent Joint Board on Defence 1944-47. He was appointed as a Air Marshall RCAF 1947. He served as Chief of the Air Staff 1947-53. (He retired in 1953.)
