He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (E) (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1948). He served in HMCS Hunter for UNTD 1948-1949. (Transferred to RCN Short Service Appointment). He was appointed as an Officer Cadet RCN 1950. He was appointed as a Midshipman (SSA) RCN 1952. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN 1953. He served in RCAF Centralia for Flying Training 1953. (He was Awarded Wings 1954.) He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (P) RCN. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) RCN (With seniority dated 01/05/1954). He served in RNAS Culdrose for Operational Training 1954. He served in RNAS Eglinton for #39 Advanced Fying Course 1954. He served in HMCS Shearwater for VS-880 Squadron 1955. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) (SSA) RCN 1956. He served in USNAS Norfolk for VS-36 as Exchange Pilot 1956. He served in HMCS Shearwater and HMCS Bonaventure for VS-880 Squadron 1958. On 02/04/1959 as Pilot-in-Command VS-880 SQN Tracker s/n 1527, crashed (went over the side) during a night-landing on HMCS Bonaventure in adverse weather, off of Bermuuda, during New Broom IX, a joint USN/RCN Exercise. Crew of 4 lost. |
