He came to Canada in 1911. He was a member of the Boy's Naval Brigade. He went to sea as a Cadet Officer. He served in the Robert Dollar Line, Victoria Tug & Barge, British Columbia Steamships Ltd., Imperial Oil Ltd. And the cableship Restorer. He served in whaling ships and on the China coast with Jardine Matheson (shipwrecked on the Taiwan coast in their ship Hop Sang). He served with Union Steamships of New Zealand, Vancouver Tug Co., Straits Towing Ltd. He served with the Canada Department of Transport in weather ships on Ocean Station Papa. (He was qualified as a Master Mariner (Foreign-going) #5424.) (He was appointed as a British Columbia Marine Pilot 25/02/1954). He was retired on 15/03/1970). |
