He was accepted as a RNAS candidate 18/09/1917. He was appointed as Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 05/10/1917) in Ottawa ON. He served in #217 Squadron (RNAS Manston) 21/05/1918 - 05/11/1918. He served in #233 Squadron RNAS Dover 03/1919. (He was demobilized.) He was decorated "for services during the Battle of Flanders, between the dates September 28th and November 11th, 1918. This officer carried out 14 bomb raids and one special mission during the battle. He displayed great courage and determination, dropping his bombs from low altitudes. On one occasion he was shot down by machine-gun fire from the ground, but landed his machine safely." |
