Biography
He was the son of Thomas, 1st Baron Denman (the Solicitor General to Queen Caroline). He unsuccessfully contested the Parliamentary seat for Manchester UK in 1859.

 

Military Service

He was appointed as a First Class Volunteer RN (With seniority dated 07/04/1823) serving in H.M.S. Dover. He was appointed as a Midshipman RN (With seniority dated 01/09/1823) serving in H.M.S. Sybille. He served in H.M.S. Thetis. He served in H.M.S. Cruizer and H.M.S. Satellite. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 09/03/1831). He served in H.M.S. Snake in 1832. He served in H.M.S. Curlew (In command) 1834. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 07/08/1835). He served in H.M.S. Scylla (In command) 1839. He served in H.M.S. Wander (In command) 1840. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 23/08/1841). (He was qualified with Steam Certificate March 1849.) He served in HM Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert (In command) 1853. He served as Commissioner For Drawing Up Code of Instructions For HM Ships Employed in Suppression of the Slave Trade 1841. He was appointed as a Groom in Waiting in Ordinary to HM the Queen 1848-1852. He was appointed as a Naval AdC to HM the Queen 1858. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 15/01/1862). He served as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. Sutlej) 1864. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (Retired) (With seniority dated 01/04/1866). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (Retired) (With seniority dated 20/11/1866).
