(He was qualified as a Master Mariner).

He was appointed as a Temporary Chief Skipper RNCVR (With seniority dated 06/06/1917). He served in HMCS Niobe for HMC C.D.-69 1917. He served in HMS Cormorant for HMC C.D.-69 (In command) 1918. He served in HMS Vivid III (Gibraltar) for HMC T.R.- 21 1918. He served in HMCS Seagull for HMC T.R.-21 1918. He served in HMCS Niobe as Additional 1918. (He was demobilized December 24th, 1918).

Anecdotes
"He was born in Newfoundland, lived for several years in Nova Scotia and settled in Prince Edward Island. He joined the RNCVR not long after the Steamer Edward – which he was skipper of – was lost off Newfoundland. He, along with two other guys (F. Billard and Charles Pike) from the Edward were mentioned in a letter from the Senior Naval Officer in Sydney. All were out of work at the time and recommended for enlistment."
