He served as DL of Ross & Cromarty 1956-60.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Midshipman RN. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 30/06/1906). He served in H.M.S. Prince of Wales 1907, (Lent from RN to RCN). He served in HMCS Niobe as Navigating Officer 1912. (He was returned to the RN for Service). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RN (With seniority dated 03/06/1914). He was appointed as a Commander RN. He was present at the Battle of Jutland. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He served as Chief of Staff and Maintenance Captain to Commander-in-Chief Portsmouth 1930-32. He served as Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief America and West Indies Station 1932-33. He served as First Naval Member New Zealand Naval Board. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN. He served as Commander New Zealand Station 1935-8. He was appointed as a AdC to HM King George VI 1936. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN. He served as Flag Officer In Command Portland Naval Base. He served as Chief of Staff Rosyth. (He was released.)
