He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNVR 1940. He was appointed as an A/Leading Naval Airman RNVR, 14 Elementary Flying Training School. He served in RCAF Kingston for #31 Service Flying Training School 1941. (CFR). He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (A) (Temp.) RNVR. He served in H.M.S. St. Vincent for 21st Pilot Course. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (A) (Temp.) RNVR. He served in H.M.S. Indomitable for 817 Squadron (Albacore/Barracuda) 1942. He survived the torpedoing of H.M.S. Indomitable during the invasion of Sicily. He served in RNAS Lee-on-Solent for 817 RN Squadron 1943, (Transferred to RCNVR 01/01/1944). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1944). He served in H.M.S. Begum for 817 RN Squadron 1944. He served in RNAS Ceyton for 817 RN Squadron 1944. He served in H.M.S. Indomitable for 817 RN Squadron 1944. He served in H.M.S. Unicorn for 817 RN Squadron 1944. He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant-Commander (P) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/04/1945).
