He joined the Canada Department of External Affairs as a Foreign Affairs Officer in 1978. He served in the Security and Intelligence Secretariat of the Privy Council Office in 1983. He was a principal officer with the Auditor General from 1988. He was appointed as Legal Advisor and Assistant Auditor General in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada from 1990 to 1996. He was appointed as Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Natural Resources 1996-1998. He was appointed as Assistant Secretary to the Treasury Board for Government Operations 1998-2000. He was appointed as Deputy Clerk, Counsel and Security and Intelligence Coordinator, Privy Council Office 2000-2002. He was appointed as President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency 2002-2005. He was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada from 2006 to 2009. He was appointed as the Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service 2009. |
