In 1953 he graduated in medicine from U of T. He practiced medicine in east-end Toronto.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 25/10/1949). He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1949-1951. (He was released.)
