He served in RNAS Aldergrove for Air Gunnery Course 1939. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (O) RN 1940. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (O) RN. He served in RNAS Portland for 771 RN Squadron 1939. He served in RNAS Bermuda for 773 Squadron 1940. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (O) RN. He served in H.M.S. Malaya for 773 Squadron Detachment 1941. He served in RNAS Arbroath for Air Signal Training 1942, HM Signals Establishment 1942. He served in H.M.S. Formidable as Signals Officer 1943.
