After his naval service he worked with Flavelle Cedar Products, Lamb-Cargate Logging Machinery and National Cover Retractable Roofs.

He was appointed as a Midshipman RCNVR (With seniority dated 21/09/1939). He served in the Vancouver Division RCNVR 1939. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR 1940. (Mobilized for World War Two service). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/03/1941). He served in HMCS Stadacona 1941. He served in HMCS Matapedia for Commissioning Party 1941. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 21/09/1942) (Later backdated to 1941). He served in HMCS Haligonian as Commanding Officer Reserve Division UNTD and Sea Cadet Training 1942. He served in RCAF St. Eugene for #13 Elementary Flying Training School 1944.
