He was living in Ottawa ON at the time of his recruitment into the navy.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1958. He served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD 1958-1960. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). (He was released.)
