He was the Examining Officer that boarded the SS Mont Blanc prior to the Halifax Explosion 07/12/1917.

He was appointed as a Mate RNCVR (With seniority dated 09/06/1917). He served in HMCS Niobe (For Miscellaneous and Special Service) 1917. (He was demobilized.)
