Biography
In 1904 he was a civil servant employed at Somerset House.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNVR (With seniority dated January 1904). He was appointed as a Chief Petty Officer RNVR 1912. In 1904-1912 he served in the London Division of the RNVR. He was one of the initial sponsors of the formation of the Royal Naval Canadian Volunteer Reserve in Victoria BC in 1913. (CFR) In September 1914 he was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant RNVR (With seniority dated 12/12/1914) at the Crystal Palace. He was appointed to the Collingwood Battalion of the Royal Naval Division as Quartermaster. He served at the Dardanelles where he was wounded. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RNVR 01/06/1917. He served in HMS Hannibal at Alexandria Egypt in 1917. (He was demobilized in England on 15/03/1919. He arrived back in Victoria BC in 1920.)
