After his naval service he earned doctorate at University of Alberta. He joined Alberta Department of Education.

He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (ROTP) RCN (With seniority dated 03/09/1963). He served in Royal Roads Military College 1959. He was appointed as a Midshipman RCN (With seniority dated 03/09/1961). He served in the Royal Military College of Canada 1961.
