He was appointed as an A/Temporary Boatswain RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1917). He was appointed as a Boatswain (Temp.) RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1917). He served in HMCS Rainbow 1917. He served in HMCS Galiano 1918 (he replaced the First Officer Alcock who was ill with influenza).
