Biography
He moved to Vancouver BC with his parents. In 1977 he was awarded the McKee Trophy. In 1978 he was inducted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame. After his World War One service he returned to Vancouver and was employed in the aircraft business.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Boy Bugler 6th (Duke of Connaught's Own) Regiment in 1902. In 1915 he joined the 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles and went overseas to France. He served as Armourer Sergeant, 1st Canadian Pioneers. (CFR). He transferred to RFC 28/08/1916 Second Lieutenant. He served as an Air Gunner in #10 and #25 Squadrons. He was appointed as a Second Lieutenant (RFC). He took pilot training and earned his wings. He was appointed as a Flying Officer (Observer) 28/10/1919. He served in #10 Squadron and then #25 Squadron (October through December). To Home Establishment, 2 January 1917. He was trained as pilot; with No.40 Squadron, 2 May to 14/09/1917; with #44 (Home Defence) Squadron, 27/09/1917 to 31/01/1918. He served in #143 (Home Defence) Squadron 02/1918. He served in #78 (Home Defence) Squadron 14 February to April 1918. He returned to Canada 20/04/1918. He was appointed as a Major RFC (With seniority dated 23/09/1918). He served in the Home Establishment 27/01/1919. He served in #123 Squadron 06/1919. In 1922 he was appointed as a Flight-Lieutenant in the Canadian Air Force. He was appointed as the Station Commander at Camp Borden ON in 1922. In 1922 he was appointed as the Station Commander at RCAF Jericho Beach. In 1922 he was appointed as Squadron Leader CAF. In 1925 he took the RAF Staff Course in the UK. In 1926 he was appointed as the Superintendent of Civil Government Operations in Ottawa ON. In 1926 he and James McKee completed the first trans-Canada seaplane crossing. He also carried the first trans-Canada airmail from Ottawa to Vancouver in 1928. In 1930 he was promoted to Wing Commander RCAF. In 1931 he was appointed as Station Commander RCAF Station Rockcliffe ON. In 1936-38 he was Statio nCommander at RCAF Trenton. He ws promoted to Group Captain RCAF. He attended the Imperial Defence College in 1938. In 1939 he was Air Officer Commanding Western Air Command in Vancouver BC. In 1941 he was appointed as Deputy Inspector General (Western Canada) at RCAF HQ in Ottawa ON. In 1942 he was appointed as Air Vice-Marshall RCAF. (He retired on 08/06/1944.)
