Biography
He was wounded and later killed by a poisoned arrow in an unprovoked attack by islanders of Santa Crus. He was buried in Sydney Australia with two of his ship's company.

He entered the Royal Navy on 07/05/1884. He served in H.M.S. Collingwood 1884. He served in H.M.S. Cyclops on the West African Station. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 07/1851). He served in H.M.S. Centaur. He served in H.M.S. Royal William. He qualified as a gunnery officer in H.M.S. Excellent. He served in H.M.S. Hastings (Noted for his part in the assault on Sveaborg in August 1855, in command of a rocket boat). He served in H.M.S. Goshawk (gunboat) (In command). He served in H.M.S. Raleigh as First Lieutenant. He served in H.M.S. Bittern. He served in H.M.S. Calcutta. He served in H.M.S. Renard. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 05/1863). He served in H.M.S. Victoria (In command). He served as Flag Captain in H.M.S. Minotaur (In command). He was appointed as Commodore RN 1873 in command of the Australian Station. He served in H.M.S. Pearl (In command).
