He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RN. He served in H.M.S. Hermes for Observer Training. He served in RNAS Ford for Observer Training. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN. He served in H.M.S. Illustrious for 819 RN Squadron (Swordfish) 1940. He served in RNAS Crete for 819 RN Squadron (Swordfish) 1941. He served in RNAS Cyprus for 810 RN Squadron (Swordfish) 1941. He served in H.M.S. Formidable for 825 RN Squadron (Swordfish) 1941. He served in H.M.S. Illustrious for 825 RN Squadron (Swordfish) 1941-42. He served in RNAS Drem for 784 RN Squadron (Fulmar/Firefly) 1943. He served in RAF Coltishell for 25 RAF Squadron (Beaufighter/Mosquito) 1943-4. He served in RNAS Ford for Firefly Flying 1944, (Transferred to RCNR 1947). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 31/05/1947).
