The famed canadian athlete, Harry Jerome, spoke at the Induction ceremony into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 1974; "The day Bill Greenough died, amateur sport in Canada lost a great hero. He was a personal friend who I considered to be a spirit we don't find every day. He was a rare human being . . . and if he were here today, he would try to improve all sports, whether it be track and field, hockey or soccer . . . All the sports he played." In 1975, Bill's hometown of St Stephen, NB created the "William Steen Greenough Memorial Award" in his honour. The first recipient was his father, Elwood 'Greeny' Greenough, himself a gifted amateur athlete. |
